Loving the Yankovic

Weird Al Yankovic may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I must confess that I’ve always found him to be a most fetching little scamp. When a man possesses not only mischievous wit and a tongue made for satire, but a head full of creepy spiral curls, I tend to fall deeply, madly in lust (Howard Stern and Dee Snyder are yet two more hideous examples of my unorthodox taste). But when you put all of the aforementioned together with stupid lyrics, well, that’s the deal-clincher right there.

Sigh...So Dreamy...

And when you add in a touch of class, have mercy. He’s mine forever. Case in point: For his latest, yet-to-be-released album, Mr. Yankovic recorded his version of James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful,” titled “You’re Pitiful,” a soul-less, gorgeous hunk of spoofery, but Blunt’s record label would have none of it. What’s a Yankovic to do? I’ll tell you what he did. Despite the fact he didn’t really need Blunt’s permission, as under Section 107 in the Copyright Act’s Fair Use criteria, an artist has the right to parody anything or anyone he wishes, Yankovic graciously pulled the track. But to my joy, he’s put “You’re Pitiful” on his website for free download, and honestly, you’d be hard-pressed to find any other singer-songwriter who makes use of the term “farty-pants” better than Weird Al Yankovic.

Gracious AND hot??

*siiiiigggh...*

A-hem! Sorry. Pulled myself together now.

What is it about men with long hair and beautiful eyes that just make me BRRRRRR!

*shudders*

My sweetie is the hottest guy on the face of the earth (I'm not just saying that in case he might read it, by the by; he doesn't use the internet full stop unless he absolutely has to, bless him, let alone log onto and read Blogs) - but this guy?

If single and not head over heels in love I sure wouldn't say no.

And it seems he's nice, too!

Win, win, anyone?

Thank you for this, sistah. The thing about Al Yankovic that is rarely mentioned is that he's got talent. It takes talent to sound like ANYONE...and to make intelligent fun of them as well. I'd love to spend a weekend with Al.

Personally, if I was a musician and Al parodied me, I'd feel proud.

You got to give snaps to the Master of the Lyrical/Hysterical.

It's like someone famous once said, if Weird Al doesn't make fun of your music, you're not famous yet!

"Eat it, eat it, doncha make me repeat it.
Have some more chicken, have some more pie,
it doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried, just eat it."

Yeah, Weird Al can write, he can sing (in dozens of different voices), and he does a spot-on impression of Michael Jackson.

Another great parodist: Bob Rivers. His spoofs on Christmas carols (especially "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire" and "Walking Round in Women's Underwear") are classic. Let us know if you want to hear one of them and we'll e-mail you an MP3 (about 4 megabytes).

I hadn't thought about him in years. You're right - he's funny.

You know how weird it is that I come to your page and I realize that perhaps we share a brain cell - as I was on Weird Al's page on Wednesday night - listening to "You're Pitiful". I love me some Weird Al. You Rock, Ms. Lori. x x x

Alice, I think I just threw up a little bit. ;-)

Jordan, it's on, then! You, me, Al, and karaoke! Woooooo hoooo!

Stephanie, I think so, too. Did you know he lost his parents in a fire not too long ago? I think it was a fire...Could've been something else, but I know that they died tragically, like, two years ago.

Jas, good quote. And so true!

Editor, I'd love to hear that -- send away!

Ann, yes, he is. He hasn't been too high-profile in the last few years, but I'm hoping that'll change soon.

Alexis, my sistah, we DO share a brain cell or two...or three, or four...We be spooky! ;-)

Weird Al is one of the most incredibly talented and awesome artists the world has ever known. He's also sweet and kind and friendly.

I agree with everybody else: nobody's really famous 'till Weird Al parodies them.

And what kind of whiny crybaby majorly uncool person would protest a Weird Al parody?

I guess we know what kind of person does that, huh.

Oh, and thanks for the tip about the free download. I'm still giggling. Yeah, Weird Al makes me happy.
